Hotel Pro Forma, an international entity for Performance Art based in Denmark, is planning a new production for 2006, entitled The Algebra of Place. A calligraphied art installation and musical performance project created for spaces with balconies, to be seen from above. Graphics, graffiti, and geometry mingle with film and projection, talking voices meet singing voices and music. Performers and people create informal situations. Poetry and perception are a part of political perspectives.
A performance about how the story and history can be told in different ways. It can even be eaten.
The Algebra of Place integrates, among others, Danish and Arabic people from the city where the performance is presented. They are performing guests and change every evening. One person stays. She is the "The Child of Sand".
The Algebra of Place opens in February 2006 in Copenhagen.
Concept and direction by Kirsten Dehlholm, visual artist, and Ralf Richardt Strøbech, architect. Production by Hotel Pro Forma.
3. Urban Dialogues
"Islands & Ghettos"
International research/exhibition.
Together with partners in the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela Johan Holten and the Berlin based art agency "urban dialogues" seeks to instigate an international research into the phenomena of territorial isolation. The project called "islands & ghettos" aims to discuss the urban, architectural and territorial effects of such segregating tendencies as those, that can be found in the South-American mega-cities. There the "barrios" of the poor exist in direct proximity to the "gated communities" of the middle- and upper classes. The aesthetics of borders as seen in the artificial groups of islands off the coast of the United Arab Emirates is another aspect of present day social seclusion. Ultimately theproject aims to mount three exhibitions with artists, architects and urbanists taking place in the United Arab Emirates (2006), Caracas (2006) and Berlin (2007).
