ARABIC CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP
The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts
Copenhagen, August 21th – 23th, 2007
The workshop was conceived and led by the calligrapher and graphic designer Tagelsir Hassan from Sharjah.
The students were introduced to the past and present of Arabic calligraphy with intervals of practical workshop as to reach better understanding of the structure of the Arabic alphabeth.
Tagelsir Hassan introduced more of his own works exemplifying the working process.
Spontaneously included in the workshop was a somatic exercise - The Lying Aleph – guided by one of the participants, Nana Gravesen (Feldenkrais practitioner).
Program:
Day 1: Historical Panorama, Arabic calligraphy in past & present. Power Point presentation with intervals of practical workshop as to reach better understanding the structure of the Arabic alphabet
Day 2: The Traditional Arabic Calligraphy
Day 3: New visions of Arabic Lettering. Graphics, Painting & Arabic Typography. Tour in the exhibition WRITTEN IMAGES, The Royal Danish Library
