INTRODUCTION

Two artists from Sharjah worked at Gammel Dok in Copenhagen and took part in the exhibition, "Five From Afar" at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.

The first project in the cultural exchange agreement was a study trip to Gammel Dok in August-September 2003 for two artists – the painter Abdul Rahem Salem and the installation artist Karima Al-Shomely from Sharjah. They took part in the exhibition, "Five From Afar", together with three other artists from Sharjah: computer artist Khalil Abdul Wahed, photographer Tarek Al-Ghoussein and sculptor Mohammad Ahmed Ibrahim. The exhibition elicited a positive response and generated new contacts between the artists from Sharjah and Danish artists.
